FAMILY AND FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS

Families are at the heart of most farm businesses in the UK.

In many ways this is a blessing, where those involved understand the history of the business, know the land and other assets well, and share common goals, objectives, and a real affinity with the farm.

But it can also be very problematic, with generational differences of opinion causing stress, and often no space or time to be apart when tensions are high.

However, most farmers agree that they are simply the custodians of land that they will pass down to younger family members, however and whenever they do that, and those family members will do the same.

This means that nurturing, strengthening and building on relationships within the family is vital for the future success of a farm business.
